Snapshots from NYC
I’ve been spending the last few days reflecting on last year and how I want things to change in the coming year. I’ll admit, I’m not sure what that’ll look like QUITE yet but I do know I want to continue bringing you high-quality posts that are useful and fun! And I also know I want to do a lot more with travel in 2017 so here are some snaps from last weekend’s trip to NYC and the places we visited!
Saturday
We arrived in NYC early Saturday morning and quickly rushed to Time Square to we could do the whole, been there, done that before the crowds got crazy. We saw the Christmas tree (so tall!!), visited the NBC studios, got royally lost multiple times within the building, and then immediately rushed OUT of that area to pick up our keys from our Airbnb rental in Chelsea.
When we arrived at our Airbnb, I was blown away It was on THE cutest street, super accessibly to Chelsea Market and right around the corner from the spot I'd booked for brunch. We figured we'd be hopping around the downtown area for drinks and such all evening, so it was central to everything we wanted. PLUS inside was so dreamy...high ceilings, brick walls, and two great sized rooms for our guests and us. If you ever go to NYC and want to stay in the Chelsea area, I'd highly recommend the place we stayed, which you can find here!
Next we set off to Chelsea Market for some lunch. It was terribly crowded but the food was 1000% worth it. The hubby grabbed tacos from Bienvenidos, while I couldn't resist the ramen at Mok Bar. Then we got Halva treats from Seed + Mill afterwards which was SUCH a treat!
Next up was coffee - of course. Luckily, Blue Bottle was right across from Chelsea Market so we fueled up on caffeine before heading back to our Airbnb for a bit of R&R before dinner.
After resting for a bit, we got all gussied up for our night out. I wore this gorgeous Alexis jumpsuit with a Shinola cross body, bracelet and matching hoop earrings, all from Rent the Runway.
Around happy hour, we set out for an the Italian dinner! It was nestled in East Village called Misirizzi! It's pretty new to the area and it's cozy, intimate setting was perfect. I had the Tris Di Canederli, which is apparently becoming QUITE THE THING in the food world. While it used to be a ‘poor man’s dish,’ today, chefs around the country are giving it a major makeover for the masses.
After dinner, we hit up The Standard for drinks right around the corner. The cocktails were great. The people watching was better.
We finished off the evening watching fireworks from the Brooklyn Bridge at midnight...although I'll admit - it was not the BEST spot. I definitely wish we had gone down to Battery Park instead. Although...you certainly can't beat this view.
Sunday
Even though we went to bed at an astonishing 1 AM (those who know me know I am NOT a night owl), I woke up bright and early to get ready for brunch...and to catch the morning light through out windows, of course. ;)
We arrived for brunch at Tipsy Parson (just a couple blocks from our Airbnb) around 10:30. It was relatively empty by then which had me a tad nervous, but within a half hour, the place was bustling! Everyone in our little group agreed that this was our FAVORITE part of the trip - the food was THAT good. I took some fancy photos with my actual camera because the space was SO CUTE - and I'll be sharing those later! But in the meantime...
After brunch, we waddled back to our Airbnb, packed up and went down to the 9/11 Memorial to do a little reflecting...It was quite humbling to be at Ground Zero. I spotted a rose on one of the names, indicating that today would have been their birthday, and said a prayer for his family. I honestly can't imagine.
Before heading out of town, we stopped for one last coffee at Cafe Grumpy (which I kept accidentally calling Grumpy Cat Cafe much to the chagrin of my coffee-snob hubby.
SO there you have it! What did you do for New Year's? Also let me know if you like posts like this and I'll work on getting some more destinations on the travel calendar! (Any excuse to travel is good enough for me!) Xx!
What is Hygge, Anyway?
You know that moment you discover something new and you’re three hours down the rabbit hole on a Saturday night googling literally everything about it? Friends, meet my latest obsession - HYGGE.

Hygge (pronounced HOO-GAH) is the danish word for COZY, but it goes much deeper than that. It’s all the little things that make up what we envision as cozy - heavy knit blankets, dining by candlelight on all your favorite comfort foods, friends eating a homemade meal around a table, listening to a record player, sitting around by the fire, drinking something warm from a pour-over…less technology, more togetherness.
Shop the record player, sweater, blanket and book from Urban Outfitters
The perfect example of this is my friend Rebecca, founder of A Daily Something. Literally everything she does and shares and LIVES is hygge. From moody lighting to the tastiest, most thoughtful dishes, I aspire to be half as cool one day.

But until then - I wanted to share my own little hygge story about how I enjoy spending cozy mornings with the fam (aka my husband and dog - and when I’m lucky enough - ERIN TOO!)
The Cozy Girl’s Guide to Dressing for New Year's Eve
When it comes to New Year’s Eve, there are many varying opinions. Some say the fancier, the better. Others go all out in a particular theme based on a decade party. Then there’s girls like me - the ones who want to be a little dressy, a little cozy and a LOT of comfy.
Now one would think that these words don’t typically mix. But I may have found the solution. Thus - I’m sharing the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit combo for the cozy girl:
ITEM 1: SEQUIN DRESS
Besides bachelorette parties, holiday soirées and New Year’s, when does one even get to don something sparkly? I’m taking full advantage this year in this gorgeous number from South Moon Under. You may remember seeing it in this post - which is another great New Year’s Eve option for the girl who wants to be fancy but also not freeze her butt off.
ITEM 2: A SUPER COZY SWEATER
Ring in the new year with a comfortable alternative to a jacket - introducing - the super cozy, oversized sweater. The moment I tried this on (another South Moon Under find) I knew it would be a big-time staple this season. And in fact, I’ve worn it once a week since finding it at SMU.
ITEM 3: OVER-THE-KNEE BOOTS
I am going to run these boots INTO the ground. I got them on major sale last season and I’ve bene living in them ever since. While this trend is on the trickier side, it’s totally transformed the way I dress in the winter. These boots are *basically* pants. And they allow me to forgo wearing tights unless absolutely necessary.

Giving Fragrance with Ralph Lauren
Scents are a pretty fascinating thing - they can transport you to a certain place, a particular moment in your past or bring back feelings of when you last wore it.
Because of this, my friends and I have a tradition. It started when I got engaged. After my bridesmaids and I did the gown fitting, we all went out for dinner and shopping afterwards. Seems normal enough. But during dessert, the girls told me that we’d be picking out my wedding perfume that evening together!
“Your wedding perfume,” they instructed, “is only to be worn on your honeymoon and anniversary…so when you smell it, it’ll bring back all those memories.”
We hopped around to a few department stores before heading into the Ralph Lauren shop at Tysons Galleria. Immediately I was drawn to this adorable heart shaped bottle, and when I smelled it, I KNEW it was going to be MY scent. I still have the photo of me and my girls in front of Ralph Lauren, holding my special perfume. Now every time I go on a special vacation or our anniversary rolls around, I spritz a little perfume on my outfit and a little on my neck, behind my ears and a TAD bit in my hair.
Picking out my perfume with my best girls was such a fun memory and such a neat idea that we’ve been doing it for our engaged friends ever since!
So for the holidays this year, I decided to bring back that feeling of having a special scent for certain times of the year - anniversary or not! Being married doesn’t get to take the monopoly on fun ideas! So I decided to gift a few of my best girls with their own special scents from Ralph Lauren.
Sometimes gifting fragrance can be risky, but this perfect little trio is a crowd pleaser - I wanted to keep each one for myself. They’re the perfect size for traveling too…A perfect choice for my jet-setting babes! I can’t wait for them to open them on Christmas morning and have their own special scents to make memories with!
Do you have a special kind of gift you love giving the girls in your life? If you can’t decide, I’d highly recommend this set of three or shop them all individually below!
