5 Looks to Invest in for Winter

As the temps keep dropping lower and lower, I've rounded up a handful of pieces that I think are well worth the investment this winter. Because creative layering is a must, you need the key pieces to put together a perfectly cozy look. And of course, I’m all about versatility, so here are a few of my top choices for pieces to invest in to stay warm, cozy and chic this winter.

1. Classic Turtleneck

Glamour agrees that turtlenecks are super versatile, therefore making my winter investment list. Selecting the color black turns this classic sweater into a piece that’s ultra chic, and one that works well with a variety of closet staples. It’s funny, as I’m writing this, I’m actually wearing a turtleneck…a cashmere blend that is snug but gives enough breathing room around the neck.  Layer your turtleneck under capes and ponchos, blazers, coats, and dresses. Then I love throwing minimalist piece of jewelry, like a necklace, to round out this look.

2. Structured Coat

There’s nothing quite like a tailored coat that nips and tucks in all the right places. Choose one that hits about mid-length and is made from a warm material, like wool. If this is a piece that you'd prefer to go with everything, then stick with classic colors such as navy blue, black, camel, cream, or off-white (and even blush perhaps!)

3. Leather Pants

Lyst’s editors believe that trendy clothes definitely belong in a winter wardrobe, so they’re suggesting a pair of well-tailored leather pants. Sort of like vests and OTK boots, leather pants have a way of elevating an outfit to swoon-worthy status like so few other pieces can. Pair these with ankle booties and your favorite oversized cable knit sweater for a look that’s effortlessly chic.

4. Cozy Sweater

This is the go-with-everything sort of sweater that will be worth its weight in gold by the time you've finished wearing it at the end of the season. Choose a neutral hue, like ivory, and wear it with your favorite jeans on the weekend, with trousers for work, and with a dressy skirt (or over a fancy dress) for an evening out.

5. OTK Boots

They’re warm, stylish, and versatile, making it pretty obvious why The Trend Spotter would recommend a pair of over-the-knee boots this winter. Perfect for wearing with skinny jeans, leggings, and tights, these are a must-have shoe that can completely transform an outfit for the better. Plus, if you plan on wearing short sweater dresses and miniskirts in the cold, then OTK boots should be at the top of your list.
