Wander

August 19, 2015 Julien Garman

Wanderlust has taken over my life. From seeing friends on vacation to my favorite bloggers in exotic corners of the world, I’ve been in a major state of envy. All I want to do is travel the world and explore. We endure the daily grind so that one day, when we save enough, we too can explore the world.

This summer, we’ve taken to exploring the things around us. We’ve cut back in other areas for our upcoming trip to St. Lucia (!!!) so it's been a whole 'lotta hanging out around home. But it’s been kind of wonderful - exploring the things in our own backyard…discovering a new wine bar just down the street…finding the tastiest cheese at our local farmer’s market. It’s really, truly the little things in life.

A few weeks ago (before the big chop) we drove past a flower farm and I insisted the hubby make the nearest U-turn so we could check it out! It was kind of a magical. Flowers surrounding us, butterflies everywhere - I never wanted to leave.

As the summer slowly comes to a close, I’d like to challenge each of you to make your own adventures. Craving some sunshine and sea? Make a day trip to Virginia Beach! Hate the traffic? Get a pass at a rooftop pool in DC and live out all your happy feels while you pretend you're in Bali. Anything, anywhere, can become an adventure if you make it one.

Denim Jumpsuit and Hair Cuttery Style

July 22, 2015 Julien Garman

I’ve been really trying to up my hair game lately. You guys may remember a few months ago when I worked with Hair Cuttery to share how they styled my hair (if not, it’s right here!) I had such a great time that they invited me back to try another hairstyle this past weekend! How could I say no?! I’d had a long week and needed a bit of a pick-me-up!

I called the Purcellville location to schedule an appointment and coincidentally got the same Master Stylist as last time, Katelyn! She is seriously awesome at what she does, gives the best head massages and can read people like a book. Let me be real with you for a moment…I’d already shot a video for the blog that morning (coming soon!) and I’d stayed up way too late the night before…I wasn’t exactly in a chatting mood and mostly wanted to catch up on my Who What Wear. I didn’t have to say a word. My stylist totally read my “can I just enjoy these moments in peace and quiet” vibes and I felt totally rejuvenated by the time I left.

Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you I’m the most indecisive person, probably ever. When it came time for me to pick a hairstyle, I basically spat out a bunch of words like, “wavy” “beachy,” “casual,” “textured,” and “maybe throw a braid in there if you want.” Thank goodness the woman knew what she was doing. She used a wand, mouse, root booster and a touch of hairspray to give me this look. I love the front braid she did too - it was the perfect “GET MY HAIR OUT OF MY FACE” solution for a hot and humid day. Be sure to head down to the bottom of the post to see the before and after photos!

And - if you're wondering how to really maximize on curling your own hair, be sure to check out this article by my friend Jen Reviews!

Keep up with Hair Cuttery on Facebook and Twitter. You can also upload your hairstyle after getting your hair done at the Hair Cuttery nearest you (locations here) to be featured in their blog gallery! Just use the hashtag, #MyHCLook!

Big shout out to Hair Cuttery for sponsoring this post and for styling my hair! I have received compensation and a free salon service from Hair Cuttery. All opinions shared are my own.

Dressed Up Linen Shorts

June 11, 2015 Julien Garman

Can someone please explain what’s happening around DC this week? I thought April showers brought May flowers, but it looks like the June showers are following the flowers - I’m so confused! I’ve been packing my umbrella every day just in case it starts to pour, as it usually does, at a moment’s notice.

On a rainy day last week, I met up with my bae of baes, Jen, to shoot a few looks. The weather was terrible, humid and hot - my hair gives it all away (Monica flashback, anyone?) And yet - while running around town, dipping inside little coffee shops during the heaviest rain, it was one of my favorite afternoons in quite some time. When you’re with the best of friends, the weather could matter less.

Between shoots around town, I changed into this comfortable number for a breather. The linen shorts and shirt combo made the mugginess so much more bearable. Also - in surprising news - these wedges are surprisingly comfortable. At the GAP event I hosted last week, they were a huge hit. They look high, but they definitely don’t feel it. Also I’m really into tying a silk scarf or bandana like this around my neck to protect my jewelry in the nasty weather. Plus, I think it looks pretty fun!

For more tips on what to wear in rainy, humid weather, check out my tips in this Washingtonian article that just came out! How do you stay cool in this muggy mess?

Linen Trench Coat

I don't know about you, but this rainy weather has been bumming me out! Where did all the sunshine go?! Dreary days call for extra cute clothes and most importantly, a trench coat.

But with the weather getting hotter and hotter, not just any trench will do. That's why I love this linen one from GAP. Not only is it super duper cute, but it's lightweight enough so you're not sweating by the time you get to work (it's okay, we've alllll been there.)

I paired this with a linen button-up (obviously can't get enough) and a bandana around my neck. I've been loving this trend and can't wait for it to catch on. Doesn't it add such a fun touch?!

Denim Dress from GAP

June 2, 2015 Julien Garman
Chambray Dress

Hi guys!! I'm so excited to finally share this shoot with you - it's one of my favorites of all time!

I spotted this dress at GAP while I was helping plan Thursday's event at their Tysons Corner location (get all the details here!) Between the softness of the fabric, the effortless shape and it's boho vibes, I'm not sure what I loved best!

I wore this to our family's Memorial Day picnic at the hubby's grandparent's home. They have the prettiest farm out in the Shenandoah and it made the perfect backdrop for my new favorite maxi. Between bites of baked beans and Granny's famous crockpot mac and cheese, we snuck away to snap a few photos. Shout out to my hubby who never gets thanked on here for his amazing dedication and super-human photography talents. Enjoy his hard work below and I hope to see you Thursday!
