Floral Perfection

August 19, 2014 Julien Garman

This summer, I’ve been on a mad hunt for the perfect floral pattern. You know, one not too 80’s (sorry all you neon lovers, I might be an 80’s baby but that’s about all I have in common with the era) with just the right amount of florally goodness. I found the prettiest floral purse from K.Slademade, but it sold out now. Sad face.

Then I saw this skirt. It was like a ray of sunshine peeking through the clouds. I HAD TO HAVE IT (insert crazy shopping eyes face with old lady claw hands.) I immediately ordered it. Of course, within a few days, the skirt went on sale which was sucky for me BUT AWESOME FOR YOU! I wish I could exchange this for a size up but since they’re sold out in that size, I love it enough to let it squeeze a bit of my skin. When I saw that it had “neon” in the description, I was hesitant, but it's bright in all the right areas. It’s the perfect combo of colors and prints. Full skirts are everything (thank you for hiding my cellulite!) and I'm loving fellow bloggers Laura, Erin and Shelby's cute picks! Shelby actually has this same skirt and I love how she styled it here!

I don’t care if summer is almost over - I’m gonna wear this baby wayyyy into Fall. Perhaps with a cropped knit turtleneck and booties? I think yes.

Dressing Down

August 15, 2014 Julien Garman

Last weekend, we attended the latest Cirque du Soleil show, Amaluna, at National Harbor, (which was AMAZING BTW and I’m giving away tickets to the August 28 show!) I thought about wearing my extravagant chartreuse lace dress (seen on Insta here) that I bought at H&M but ended up with another casual cool look. As you can tell, I’ve been totally into dressing down lately. I styled my hair in a 'roughed up' pony to pair with the laid back look (thanks for the tutorial, Natalie and Tammy!) I typically spend way too much time trying to look “put together” and I’m ready for a change!

This blazer has basically been on me every day since I bought it at Anthom. When Ashley suggested I try it on in the store, I thought, “but I already have a black blazer.” Umm, wrong. OH. SO. VERY. WRONG. This slouchy blazer instantly gives a chic look to everything I throw it over. I can’t begin to tell you how obsessed I am.

PS can we talk about these super cute booties from The Mint Julep Boutique?! I’ve been searching for the perfect cognac pair and THEY HAVE ARRIVED. Prepare to see these bad boys wayyy more often over here. And I’ll be doing a little giveaway next week for a gift card to The Mint Julep Boutique so you can get a pair for yourself - HOLLA! In the meantime, get $10 off for signing up for their email list.

Birthday Weekend

August 11, 2014 Julien Garman

Last weekend, I celebrated my birthday by being a complete tourist in DC. Since we live outside the city, it was such a treat to use Airbnb to book a stay in someone’s condo on Dupont Circle. For exploring the Dupont area, I wanted to wear something cute, but obviously comfortable. I stuck with my trusty white jeans for the cooler evening and this pretty lace tank top I snagged on sale at Nordstrom.

We grabbed a bite at District Taco (it rivals Chipotle, you guys), got emotional about some paintings at The Phillips Collection, and found a sweet local coffee spot my husband read about in one of his coffee books (where I picked up the SECRETS issue of D/CITY!) To finish off the evening, we grabbed some tasty thai food at Doi Moi (a rec from Tammy), enjoyed some gelato at Dolcezza and swung by a late-night concert at The Hamilton. The next morning we did brunch at Busboys and Poets, where I practically inhaled the homemade amazingness that is their French Toast. It was the perfect weekend.

So, did we hit all the best spots? Is there anywhere in Dupont I should go next time? Let me know!

Casual Cool

Lately, I’ve been practicing my casual cool looks. As much as my classic style begs me to wear a classic LBD or LWD, I want to reach out of my comfort zones and try something new!

Thank goodness I bought this H&M vest at the beginning of summer - it’s been the perfect layering piece to help me put together an outfit that says, “This old thing? I just threw this on last minute!” (I didn’t.)

While I’d typically reserve a vest like this for daytime, Natalie convinced me that I could totally sport it to an event we attended together (where we met the soccer players from InterMilan - #NBD) They key, really, in my opinion, is to just rock it. Was everyone else decked out in preppy goodness? Yes, yes they were. But did I care? The only thing I cared about was that I could get to the gelato bar before all the ice cream was gone. Those are the things that really matter, guys.

Colorful Summer

August 4, 2014 Julien Garman

Welcome to August folks. Needless to say, it’s hot out there. Like so hot I abandon all insecurity surrounding my cellulite and put on those short shorts because it is TOO HOT not to. Did I mention humidity? Forget beautiful waves at the end of the day - it’s pony tail season.

This Trina Turk for Banana Republic tank (best hand-me-down ever) was the perfect choice for going to watch another jumpers tournament at Great Meadows…it’s super lightweight and even if I did sweat, you couldn’t see it! This is the REAL reason why white-on-white is SO in. Mind blown, right?

We enjoyed an evening of picnic delights, us girls danced at the cougar disco there after the horse festivities (for those of you who have been to Great Meadows, YOU KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT.) Definitely not the worst way to work off those cheese and wine calories, that’s for sure.
